4 Things All Blog Posts Need
(5 mins to read)
"If you do this, you'll write your blog with an addictive zeal your readers will love"
With so many blogs saturating the internet, it's crucial to make sure that your blog stands out from the blogaholic crowd.
So, to make it a little bit easier for you, we've collated the 4 must-have traits that all blog posts should have. Happy writing.
1. Length - how long is it?
People are busy and they want to know the facts fast. This adds pressure on any blog writer to cram their blogs with a lot of info in a small amount of space. The best thing to do? Pick just 3 key points and keep them short but informative. Clever blogs add a 'reading time is X mins' banner at the top, to let people know how much time they will be investing. Although, it is worth noting that some longer blogs (like this one) are great too if the reader has the time. If in doubt, you can tick both boxes by adding bold, informative headers for time-sensitive scan-readers.
2. Personality - give it a voice
Good blogs and editorials are interesting and informative, for example, 'Taking magnesium supplements at night help you sleep, especially with a spoonful of local honey'. Brilliant blogs, however, have all of those listed attributes, plus a dash of personality and opinion, for example, 'Grab a good night's sleep with a couple of Solgar magnesium tablets and a spoonful of local honey - this has always worked for me. Another option that bio-hacker Steve Marshall believes in is ignoring the magnesium and taking chamomile capsules instead. Try both to see which works best for you.' It's reassuring to hear the article-writer's confident tone and a wide range of articulate opinions.
3. Facts - know your stuff
You can write a blog beautifully: with zero grammar mistakes, the perfect length and with loads of personality, however... If you don't know your facts then forget it. Invest time in researching your blog topic and gather opinions which don't match your own. If you do this, you'll write your blog with an addictive zeal your readers will love. 4. Exclusivity - first to know
Make it feel like your blog is an exclusive for all your followers, as if your blog post is hosting first-hand info, news, tips and tricks they can get their hands on before anyone else. Who does this best? Dave Asprey. Take a look at his blog on the Organic Revolution, to feel like a real VIP.
Do all 4 of these things and your readership will be craving your next blog before you've had time to put pen to paper... Or fingers to keyboard.
