How To Write A Cover Letter In 4 Steps
(3 mins to read)
Having a strong Cover Letter gets your foot in the door.
It's the first chance you're given to impress and show a recruiter why you're the perfect candidate for the role. Did you know that you have around 5 seconds for the recruiter to decide whether they want to try you or chuck you(?!)...
That said, there's no need to stress, because we've got 4 simple steps to get you closer to an interview and to sealing your dream job.
Step 1. State the obvious
This sounds simple, yet so many people forget to specify what role they are applying for. These guys could be sieving through tonnes of Cover Letters for different roles - so be specific and spell it out.
E.g. I am applying for the role of Marketing Finance Analyser at Silo Marketing.
Step 2. Time to show off
Use the first paragraph to pull out a few career game-changers you've had thus far. With each point, expand on why this experience will make you a crucial addition to the team and role you are applying for.
E.g. Having worked at the crux of the Miad Marketing Team: interpreting sales & profit margins, I believe I can apply these analytical skills and help develop the current processes used at Silo, resulting in more accuracy, speed and responsiveness.
Step 3. Know the company
Refer to a specific project on which the company you are applying for are currently working. Describe why this project interests you, and how you could influence it.
E.g. The Endell campaign Silo is working on with Dijimox is astonishing. The budget behind it is minimal and yet the output is phenominal. Working in a figures-first environment like this is where I flourish.
Step 4. End on a high
Sign off with some good energy, high expectations and an element of control.
E.g. Thanks for your time. I look forward to hearing from you and discussing further my fit for the role of Marketing Finance Analyser at Silo Marketing. If you require any more information please do get in touch.
Our final tip?
